AEV's training schedule

Training meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday evening of most months. Members are notified by e-mail about the exact meeting schedule and the topic of each meeting or training event.

Optional: Wildland Fire Training

An AEV volunteer DOES NOT need to be trained in wildland firefighting. Most of our volunteers DO NOT enter active wildfire areas. However, some AEV members are certified to operate within an active wildland fire zone, if requested by the Incident Management Team (IMT) assigned to a wildland fire. These AEV volunteers have been specially trained in wildland firefighting and hold a current Incident Qualification System (IQS) Card as a Firefighter 2 (FFT2) or a Technical Specialist (THSP). In addition to the S130/S190 basic wildland firefighting class and the annual work capacity test, the NWCG requires that firefighters must complete additional training in the Incident Command System and attend an annual 8-hour safety refresher course.

Any AEV member is encouraged to get certified in Wildland Firefighting, but certification in Wildland Firefighting is NOT required to be a member of Animal Evac Volunteers.

Safety is always the first priority for all of our volunteers.
